The last Saturday of July there is the Summer Carnival in Rotterdam. You might already have seen pictures of it from previous years at my 'Rotterdam' page. Well here are some more of the 1998 issue.
The parade starts with the car of the Queen of the Carnival.
Lots of kids participate.
This is about extra terrestrial 'out there'. I am not sure if they also mean 'out' in the gay sense of the word.
There are also participants from further South America than the Caribean and Surinam. There they have a very different way of dressing up for the feast. I think this women is from Bolivia.
This is at the Friendship Village around the Music Theatre in Amsterdam during the Gay Games. Of course there were lots of complaints again that there was so much focus on drag queens giving a distorted image of the 'real' gays and lesbians. I hope that you see the striking difference between these gays and the previous pictures.
Here is Keith from New York whom I met over internet and who was also visiting the Gay Games.
Around the Waag building where I was attending a workshop on lesbian and gay activism and the new media (that is internet), there was a sort of arts fair housed in goods containers.
This Artist must have formerly been known as a Queen I think.
Here is a guy I know from my gym in Rotterdam.
I also visited the body building finals of the Games, here you see the entry.
It was actually a bit too dark inside to make photographs so I didn't do my best to picture the flesh from nearer than my seat in the audience. That basically means that you have to use some fantasy to see some 160 muscular lesbians and gays on the stage here.
Keith did not only want to see the Games, but was also interested in windmills. For a windmill enthusiast, Kinderdijk is a definate must.
